the pandemic era presented us all with a multitude of challenges and stressors and dark moments, but there WERE some beautiful, uplifting events and one of my favorites was the opening of boulder’s newest home shop, wildflower nation supply. i am so grateful for the moxie and vision of elizabeth prentiss and erica simon in creating this absolute jewel box of a destination. my heart sings with joy each time i visit as there are so many treasures to discover in their shop with the big porch on 17th street right off of pearl.
the name, wildflower nation supply, is inspired by colorado’s annual wildflower season in a nod to blooms that are special because the season is limited and the beauty is lasting. to this end, they focus on small runs of gathered collections that mix vintage, handmade, local artists and limited quantity products that honor the lifestyle of the american west. wildflower nation has a unique, thoughtful, earth conscious approach to home retail… the core tenets of the shop:
we trust that limited edition decor inspires long term love.
we want you to shop more and buy less, keeping the things you truly love forever.
we believe that a home should be packed with personality and products should put people and preservation first.
we favor vintage and handmade because there is nothing more green and few things as special.
we strive to be a zero waste company by focusing on repurposed, ethically sourced items and tight inventory management via mini collections.
these ideas are actualized in a gorgeous, perfectly curated space with an ever rotating assemblage of product so that there is always something new and intriguing. the spring collection was called “garden party” and featured sweet florals on textiles, ceramics, metal trays and photos as well as all kinds of woven picnic baskets and rattan containers. at easter, they invited sugar egg artist, nicole vendelin, of @colie_collectibles, to demonstrate her design process live on wildflower nation’s porch. colie learned the art of sugar egg design from her grandmother. i had not seen sugar eggs since i was a little girl and it was so exciting to share this age old craft with my children (even my teenager was enchanted!)

i am already looking forward to fall which is called “bavarian midnight cabin” and will be an assortment of black and white gingham napkins made from existing fabric, hand painted trays and chairs with florals and berries, pewter vessels, cuckoo clocks and cookie jars from another era one can easily imagine in a cozy mountain cabin.

in addition to being a treasure trove of one of a kind, heartwarming selections for your home (they just added a line of lovely vintage quilts repurposed as bedrolls and chain stitched pillowcases), wildflower nation supply offers ideal gifting for both the big and small occasions. erica simon (@elsvintagejewelry) restores and repurposes stunning jewelry pieces for modern use that make me gasp with delight. there are also all kinds of sweet, sharable mementos (beaded bracelets, handmade paper journals, candles, glass dinner bells to name a few) at very accessible price points.
