we lost our gg in february 2020 … just before everything shut down with the corona. attending her service was the last “normal” thing i did before we all bunkered in and started leaving our mail out to degerm, soaking ourselves in off brand hand sanitizer because people were hoarding purell (AND toilet paper and rice and flour and sugar), wearing hazmat suits to costco and walking our dogs seventeen times a day. i am eternally grateful gg missed all that, along with the fear and heartbreak and isolation. but losing her was still devastating.

a few months later we realized that the grandma we wave to on the “i” street was missing from her front window. while we never technically met her, we had been waving to her for several years on our way to school and then on all of our seventeen daily walks with hank during lockdown. we were just gutted about her passing and i couldn’t drive down the “i” street without crying for months.
and now we’ve lost elizabeth, who i think of as the world’s grandma. of course, she WAS a queen and i’m totally into that as i’m all about a pretty dress and a sparkly crown but mostly i loved that she was a grandma and wore rainbow monochrome dresses and darling hats and waved to us all with such grace and warmth. we NEED our grandmas in this upside down world so if you still have one, take GOOD care of her. rest in loving peace granny elizabeth…x00xx
