kristen abbott's "language of leaves"

(one of kristen abbott’s pieces from “the language of leaves”)

seeing something beautiful always gives my heart a lift. on friday my girlfriend, rachel, (a very talented designer with a great eye) took me to the opening of kristen abbott’s solo show “the language of leaves” at the new local annex. kristen uses actual plants to create the organic silhouettes featuring carefully curated foliage on her canvases. the linens and silks are colored via a process using cyanotype that produces hues ranging from indigo to gold. the results are stunning. the show is up for the rest of the month!

after the opening, rachel and i popped over to the new local original, a jewel box of a gallery featuring all female (identifying) artists in a charming victorian house. i had not yet visited and i was so delighted to see some of my local favorites: sarah kinn (i LOVE her bright, joyful paintings), matti berglund of matti made (her portraits of women are layered with story), carol ann wachter (her ethereal dresses are so much fun to wear), cary jobe (just GORGEOUS photography) and trapper of colorado (her mountain gear almost makes me want to go camping - good thing it is just as appropriate as streetwear!) and to learn about so many other inspiring boulder creatives.

our evening was capped off by a yummy dinner at jax (which never disappoints) where we bumped into another dear friend. i DID lose my glasses for a time which delayed my order because i couldn’t read the menu (ultimately i had the tuna poke - delicious!) after i’d spent about twenty minutes pulling EVERYTHING out of my oversized handbag… i DID find my mother’s car key that i accidentally brought back with me from california that i am trying to remember to return… we found my glasses in my girlfriend’s handbag. she can’t see either and wears a similar style. sometimes being in your fifties is extra glamorous. x00xx
